Layering Color in Oils
Saturday, May 4th and Sunday, May 5th, 2019
10:00 am to 4:00 pm each day
The cost is $375.00 which includes MANY supplies (supply and registration info below) Only 12 spaces available
This workshop is for painters, both new and seasoned, wanting to explore luminous transparencies and opacities in oil paint to create dynamic color relationships in their work. Participants will learn new ways of seeing pictorial space by physically manipulating their source material to create a dynamic composition for a work on canvas. Demonstrations, conversations on color theory, and ample time spent individually mixing and applying paint will yield a completed work of art with several small color studies. The composition will be strengthened by passages of transparencies, opacities, and a wide range of guided color combinations. Participants will work on a variety of different surfaces to explore a color’s reaction to its substrate. They will also use a variety of unconventional tools and mediums to apply the paint, mediate their control, and expand the possibilities of layering oil paint. Discussions on improvisation, control, and chance will lead each painter to a better understanding of their own process and collaboration with their materials. These explorations of color and its many exciting, relational properties will provide participants with methods they can apply to all genres of painting.
