Beginner Workshops (SOME Saturdays)

Learn a variety of techniques including how to build layers, fuse, texture, work with grids, stencils, embed objects, incise, transfer, collage and much more along with a working knowledge on how to melt and mix wax, a bit about the history of wax painting, a working knowledge of supplies and how to create your own workspace! All supplies included.

$25 per hour

Once you've taken an introductory / beginner workshop, come back for Independent Workdays to create without any formal instruction using all of our equipment and supplies.

The charge for a workday starts at the time you schedule in for.

Monday: 7:00 to 10:00 pm

Wednesday: 10:00 to 1:00 or 7:00 to 10:00 pm

Saturday: 10:00 to 4:00 or choose your hours

Beginner Workshops (SOME Saturdays)

4-hour Mini Workshop Descriptions

These 4-hour mini workshops are designed for artists of all levels, even those new to encaustic painting. $80.

Vintage Ephemera: Vintage Ephemera: In this specialty workshop, we'll be using vintage papers to create beautifully layered compositions. ALL supplies included but you are welcome to bring some of your own print outs as well. Old book pages are great too.

Textile, Paper, and Encaustic: In this specialty workshop, we'll explore incorporating textiles and paper into encaustic. We'll also be doing some incising and tinting the surface with pigment sticks. ALL supplies included. We have plenty of textiles and papers here but you are welcome to bring more; thinner textiles and papers are best.

Encaustic Monotype: In this specialty workshop, we will be using various papers and encaustic paint on the Hotbox to create unique encaustic monotypes. ALL supplies included. We have plenty of papers here but you are welcome to bring more; thinner papers are best.

Layers and Layers

Every layer counts — especially the first one. Beginning with the board we will blend colors by using both translucent and opaque paints. Then using a variety of tools to scrape and cut back we'll reveal treasures from previous layers. This workshop explores how building and scraping back layers can reveal a beautiful painting.

Incorporate words and imagery into your encaustic routine with collage techniques. This workshop will

cover a multitude of ways to layer, color and pattern with commercial, handmade papers and vintage

ephemera. You will learn to layer and fuse encaustic medium and paints; tips and tricks for using a tacking iron and you’ll explore various weights of papers. This workshop is designed for artists of all levels, even

those new to encaustic painting.
