The cost of this Zoom workshop is $135
Learn to use a torch to make marks, gently "kiss" surfaces and reveal beautiful underlayers. Torches cause the wax to meld and create unique, organic effects. Adding pigment sticks, oil pastels and texture, while using an adjustable torch can achieve free-form irregular shapes that resemble natural elements
This workshop builds on some of the Organic Fusion techniques Elizabeth Schowachert has developed and taught here. These added and altered techniques and processes encourage exciting new ways to individualize and make the work your own.
This course is best to for those who have done at least one beginner workshop up to the intermediate and advanced student. If you have never done encaustic before, please sign up for a beginner workshop in advance. Reach out to Bonny to discus other options such as a One on One to prepare: bonny@theencausticcenter.com
Some of the processes we'll cover:
Learn the proper safety and use of a torch.
Establish a free-form background with texture.
Use various fusing techniques that create shapes and bubbles.
Reveal the beauty through scraping, mark making and other additive and subtractive processes.

Teaching and painting for more than 9 years, Leigh Harrison has enjoyed working with students of all ages as they apply their creativity and explore the art process.
Currently, Leigh is creating more abstract, painterly or collage-oriented artwork, in oil or encaustic. When working on collage-oriented works, she uses textiles, found items, her own photographs and various papers and encaustic monotypes. Leigh is fascinated by the art process and loves the use of color, line and texture to create artwork that is exploratory in combining a variety of complimentary materials.
In addition to teaching art and art history to high school students, she also curates art shows as part of the volunteer managing committee for the Umbrella Gallery in Deep Ellum.
Leigh earned an associates degree in Applied Arts from the Art Institute of Dallas and a bachelor degree in Liberal Arts from Midwestern State. She has continued her art education by participating in workshops under the tutelage of a variety of talented artists generous enough to share their process.
