The workshop includes a Zoom meet-up, prior to the workshop, to go over collage elements, color choices, processes we'll be using, principles of composition and ways to personalize your work, The talk will be recorded.
If you're looking for exciting, painterly, spontaneous ways to use encaustic while retaining a cohesive sense of balance, these are great processes and explorations to get you there. We'll be using a variety of approaches including Encaustic Monotype, Paper Collage and Painting on boards to make works that have strong, dynamic compositions. A discussion on What Makes a Successful Composition will be part of our focus and each participant will receive a PDF on composition and color along with art references we'll be going over in the talk.
All levels welcome!
Supplies included:
Encaustic paint, Scraping Tools, Irons, Brushes, Paper for Encaustic monotypes, Collage papers, 12x12 flat and 2 cradled boards.
Bring blue tape and any additional pigment sticks, collage elements, mark making and scraping tools you like. Bring more cradled boards, any size - optional.
We'll be working on flat and cradled boards. You are welcome to work larger - bring your boards if so. I'll be showing and discussing various references and my take on elements such as harmony, balance, movement, contrasting areas of busy and calm, light and dark and so much more. I'll be welcoming questions, and giving input into making abstractions with your personal sensibilities.
